Aurifil Deal

There’s an opportunity on Massdrop to buy a set of six large spools of Aurifil thread for only $45.99 with free shipping to the US. There’s info about international shipping on their FAQ Page.

Not familiar with Massdrop? Neither was I. Here’s the description from their website:

Massdrop takes a group of people that each want to buy the same thing, combines their order, and places that order directly with the manufacturer. As a result, everybody in the group gets the large quantity price while only having to buy one (or two, or ten). (Pro Tip: The bigger the group, the better price that everyone will get!)

Here’s the set. It’s six large spools and it includes the colors listed below. Two of them are my favorite standbys — 2021 and 2024.  I have all of the other colors, also. You can’t go wrong with this set of neutrals.

  • 2021- Natural White
  • 2024- White
  • 2310- Light Beige
  • 2600- Dove
  • 2605- Grey
  • 2692- Black

The suggested retail price for a large spool per Aurifil is $13.25. It’s only $7.665 per spool if 25 people commit at the best price of $45.99 for the set.

What do you think? You can go to the deal page here. Buy the whole set for yourself or go in with one or more people and split it. Either way it’s an awesome deal.

The offer is currently at the first price point of $51.99. You can join in right now before the deal ends in one of two ways — (1) join at the current price and buy at whatever price it ends at or (2) commit to buy only if enough join to reach the $45.99 price. Even at the starting price of $51.99 it’s still a fantastic deal at $8.665 per spool. It’s a few participants shy of reaching the middle price of $49.99 right now.

I’m in!  Go check it out. Don’t delay if you might be interested in purchasing because it shows the deal ends in six days, which should be May 7th.

Also, there are a couple other active buys going on that you may be interested in but are ending very soon:

I’ve never used Aurifil. What’s so great about it? Is it really worth 4-5 times the price? I am intrigued by the popularity of the thread.

It isn’t 4 to 5 times the price of Mettler, which is the only other thread I will use in my machine. Long staple Egyptian cottons, much less lint than Coats and some of the other traditional 100% cotton threads. It’s a fabulous thread and one spool will convince you of all its sterling qualities. The large spools being sold have 1422 yards of thread on them vs. 557 for the regular Mettler large spool, which retails for $7.50-$8.99. Gutterman is 250 yards for about $4.50. Even at JoAnn’s Coat is about $2.50 for 350 yards, but I had a hard time finding it. If you do the math, you will find that Aurifil is actually cheaper than most of the other threads, but it comes on a larger spool. The only way to know how fabulous it is would be trying it for yourself.

I am thinking. I have to figure out where to come up with the money, because that is a GREAT deal. It costs that much for Mettler and that’s less than half the thread.

How in the world did you know I just found $50? Well, that didn’t last long, but the thread will be a welcome addition to my sewing room.

I ordered :-) I have never used Aurifil and have been dying to but at $11 a spool it was a little high. So this is the perfect opportunity to try it and is colors I use a lot of when I buy Gutterman. This is definitely cheaper when you figure the yards on a spool. Thanks for the heads up on this deal.

You know, I hate to say this publicly and you probably don’t realize it, but stuff like this hurts authorized Aurifil retailers (like myself), and the industry as a whole.

These people are not authorized retailers and they are basically gaming the system, posing as wholesalers when in fact they aren’t. I’ve spoken to my contacts at Aurifil and they are pretty upset and aware of this company but are unable to stop them because this company is not buying directly from Aurifil or any of their Authorized wholesalers (such as Moda/United Notions etc.)

So spreading these kind of deals only hurts everyone in the long run. Please don’t flame me for responding to this, I’m just trying to spread a little education around :-)

Melissa thank you for the heads up on the Aurifil thread. I received mine in the mail this afternoon. I was in the middle of a sewing project and stopped what I was doing and changed the thread. It sews beautifully, such a difference.
    Thank you!
